Missions

Missions

Jesus said, "Go into all the world and make disciples of all the nations." Each member of the church participates in this mission when he faithfully serves Christ in his weekly vocation. In addition to the witness of labor done to the glory of God, there are numerous opportunities at Covenant to pray and support.

Missionaries We Support

With Acts 1:8 in mind, we seek to support missions work locally, nationally, and in all parts of the world. We encourage the congregation to pray for and support our missionaries.

Frontline Fellowship - Dr. Peter Hammond

Frontline Fellowship is a Bible based African mission that has pioneered missionary work into neglected mission fields and areas resistant to the Gospel. Since 1982, Frontline missionaries have traveled hundreds of thousands of kilometers by foot, by motorbikes, by dugout canoes, trucks and aircraft to boldly proclaim the Gospel of repentance and faith in Christ to soldiers, guerrillas, resistance fighters and civilians on all sides of many conflicts in Africa .

The Founder and Director of Frontline Fellowship, Dr. Peter Hammond, has personally carried out over 100 missions in the war zones and presented over 12,000 sermons, Bible studies and lectures in 27 countries. In the course of their missionary activities some Frontline missionaries have been ambushed, come under artillery bombardment and mortar fire, been stabbed, shot at, beaten by mobs, arrested and imprisoned. The Frontline mission base and high school in Sudan repeatedly came under aerial bombardment by the government of Sudan Air Force (10 times in 18 months). Over the years, 20 people involved in Frontline Fellowship outreaches have been imprisoned in Marxist or Muslim countries. Yet, by the grace of God, every one was freed in response to persistent prayer and pressure (Luke 18:1 – 5).

Slavic Reformation Society
Reformed Theological Seminary of St. Petersburg Russia - Blake Purcell

The Reformed Seminary of Saint Petersburg Russia is the only Reformed Seminary in Russia. It has students enrolled from Orthodox, Baptist, and Communist Backgrounds. The students come from all over Russia: Vladivostok, Ufa, and St. Petersburg. A distance spanning 6,000 miles!

The curriculum includes an intensive study of the Scriptures, discipleship, the original languages, systematic theology, and church history.

The seminary's calling is to prepare Russian laborers in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They are looking for men who will serve as pastors, missionaries, teachers, and church planters for the Reformed Presbyterian Church of Russia. They need men to be servants for the body of Christ, who will faithfully, skillfully, and lovingly contend for historical, orthodox Christianity and for the building up of Christ's church, and the growth of the kingdom of God on the earth.

To accomplish their goals, they need support for more students to study at the seminary. The average cost of supporting a seminary family per month is $420.00.

Blake Purcell, Pastor of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of St. Petersburg, is the director and primary instructor of the seminary. Blake is married to his wife, Cathy. They have two daughters and four sons.

The Purcells were among some of the first missionaries to move into the former Soviet Union when they moved to St. Petersburg Russia in 1990.

Blake Purcell has been reaching people and teaching in the Russian language in St. Petersburg since 1990. Blake is ordained as a teaching elder in the Mississippi Valley Presbytery of the PCA. He was sent in 1998 as an evangelist/missionary to Russia to plant churches and train and ordain leadership.

The Reformed Presbyterian Church of Russia is raising money to publish Reformed literature in the Russian language. It is also seeking to purchase property in St. Petersburg to serve as a church, seminary, and publishing house.

They need your prayers and financial help.
